A Strange Wedding leads the charge on useless seconds, a new label set to make its mark in the French experimental music scene. Known for his warped take on eerie sounds, he now brings the Pressure EP — three club-ready tracks featuring reimaginations by Nadia Struiwigh and Patrick Russell. Those with a keen ear for high-fidelity productions are in for a treat.
useless seconds is a new imprint born from the hive mind of five key players in the French scene: Aurélien Proust, Antoine Hernandez, Mouloud Ourabah, Christian Coiffure, and Adrien van de Velde — better known as A Strange Wedding himself.
After a year of planning, reflection, and collaboration, the label debuted with its first offering. And who better to launch it than Positive Education resident and Mama Told Ya alumni, A Strange Wedding? Hailing from the Mediterranean coast, the Marseille-based DJ, producer, and trained sound designer is no stranger to those attuned to mesmeric and propulsive cuts. His reputation is cemented in what can be described as soundtracking dancefloors with his blend of polychromatic influences — leftfield rhythms, and other-worldly elements, all with a cutting-through sub-bass punch. Whether it's playing at the newly emerged Parisian club Essaim or experimenting in his studio, he’s an artist proving once again that he’s at the forefront of the French speedy, psy-induced sound.
The upcoming Pressure EP builds to a thrilling climax of speed and psychedelia while exploring diverse territories through remixes of ‘Wormhole Breaker’. Struiwigh delivers a mutating drum and bass roller that deconstructs and rebuilds the original, while Patrick Russell’s offers a swirling sensation, allowing listeners to get lost between two ethereal realities.
Minimal Collective premieres ‘Quadra Morphing’, a gurgling trip that showcases the distinct approach A Strange Wedding has developed in recent years. It’s a contemporary take on club music that twists and turns through rich frequencies across the range. Some label it futuristic techno, but it begs the question: did A Strange Wedding pierce through the genre veil?
