UK-originated Luke Standing aka Blue Hour adds to his ever-evolving body of work. Selva, released on his imprint Blue Hour Music, marks his first full-length studio album as a double LP. With eight tracks of contemporary techno drawing on personal influences from his versatile history, the Berlin-based artist channels over a decade of experience into a new realm of sound.
More than an artist, Blue Hour remains a critical force in electronic music culture. As head of Blue Hour Music and co-founder of positivesource with Philippa Pacho, his output reflects a dedication to both authorship and collaboration within the scene. Over more than a decade, Luke has established a coherent platform of refined releases and a distinct curatorial approach that’s unmistakably Blue Hour.
As a producer, Blue Hour distills his surroundings into his sound, allowing them to subtly shape his work. When closely listening to Selva, one can note how his UK background, influences from his hometown in Berlin, and recent time spent in subtropical environments have informed the core of his debut album. Shaped by an intuition-based method rather than a fixed approach, the record distills years of experience into an introspective journey.
It’s precisely this intuition that preserves the purity of Luke’s output and allows him to evolve unpredictably from one release to the next.
Hidden Passages is Minimal Collective’s premiere pick. A subtle breeze lingers as clean kicks and sharp percussion remain stripped-back, interpreting techno as both traditional and contemporary in a way Blue Hour is known for.
