Amniote Editions presents the second run of ‘The Collective Capsule’ in collaboration with Mala Junta, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of one of Berlin’s favourite parties. Consisting of a 12” which houses tracks from Junta residents and an extended digital compilation, the release celebrates the immense impact of the both labels on Berlin’s vibrant queer community and their shared core principles, which serve as a mirror for the society they wish to foster.
Since 2019, Amniote Editions has established itself as a mixed media channel at the forefront of underground electronic music. Curated by DJ’s and industry heavyweights, Tanya Akinola, AKA T-N and Mama Snake, the label serves as a platform for various forms of creative content to accompany music as the main output. Always released as a ‘capsule’, each project on the label aims to challenge traditional ways of presenting sound and art.
Mala Junta is one of the most talked about party brands to come out of Berlin in the last decade, known for presenting an old school, fast and funky sound to its community. Thanks to its diverse roster of resident DJ’s, including D.Dan, Yazzus, Hyperaktivist and DJ Tool, the collective covers a vast spectrum of styles. Mala Junta transports their audience ”to the days where it all began”, harnessing the feelings of freedom and protest of the ‘90s rave era and intertwining it with the distinct vibrancy of today's queer community.
The second collective capsule hosts a varied bill of artists including fellow label heads like D.Tiffany and Dutch trailblazer JEANS. Our premiere pick 'To Be Free’ is a goa-leaning trance workout with spacey vocal samples and crisp percussion. Destined to be a favourite of misty clubs and free parties alike, the track is a collaboration by FOLD London resident, Riva and Narr radio host, Monophonik. ‘To Be Free’ peaks with a captivating, tension-building breakdown three minutes in, followed by a revitalised return to its rhythms and rave character.
