With the arrival of Analog Fragments (Voll II), Brussels-based InDepth Imprint completes its VA debut with its complementary second half. With the Willem Twee studio at the heart of the project, UFO95, Hadone, Raär, Clara D, and Initial Code trace their club-focused productions from Voll I back to the breeding grounds they were harvested from.
Having been largely involved in Brussels’ growing presence in contemporary electronic music, InDepth Imprint didn’t come out of the blue. Previously operating as a digital platform that viewed contemporary electronic music through an editorial lens, the extension into a label brings its philosophy closer to the processes through which the music itself is shaped. Its inaugural project puts this approach directly into practice.
The project originates in Studio 1 of Willem Twee Studios, a gem on the Dutch grounds of music production. Its nuclear plant-like aesthetic is not coincidental, as many of the analogue instruments were never intended to be used for music production when developed years ago. Early electronic composers like Stockhausen and Maderna discovered the sonic potential of these pulse generators and measurement equipment. Now, the mostly manually controlled machines essentially form one large synthesiser, which became the perfect vehicle for InDepth Imprint to board its first five producers. In a dynamic process of collectively exploring Studio 1’s potential, altered with individual phases, Analog Fragments (Voll II) became the result of five individual elaborations. This time in a more experimental and ambient-oriented direction.
Minimal Collective premieres Crossed by UFO95. The artist lets his improvisational signature shape flows of analog presence around a crystal-clear, downtempo rhythm. What was once a mere analog tool is reworked into a world of its own.
