Premiere: Will Oirson - Doubting The Hardness Of The Spider, I Eat The Nest
Healing tones and songbird warbles echo throughout Escapism, the latest EP from Will Oirson. Published on The Something Something… label, which Oirson co-curates alongside visual artist Rutger Paulusse, Escapism evokes dewy mornings with a soundtrack just as appropriate for the end of a night or the start of a morning.
Creating across a range of media, Oirson works predominantly with vibrant ambient palettes that explore mindful and contemplative sensibilities. The Something Something… label is a testament to this commitment to multi-modal exploration, with Oirson and his co-curator Rutger Paulusse placing the visual and the audible in continuous dialogue to produce works that showcase the pair’s boundless creativity.
Escapism presents a clear example of Oirson’s predilection for experimental sounds. Across the EP, Oirson conjures a lush landscape, decorated with late-summer hues and animating field recordings. Oirson self-describes the release as soundtracking “a burnout that has been coming for years”, with the three tracks offering ample catharsis for tired minds.
Minimal Collective’s pick, ‘Doubting the Hardness of the Spider, I eat the Nest’ builds on these soothing themes, layering windswept melodies with avian songs to craft a thick blanket perfect for both arising and collapsing.
