From the shores of Down Under to the abyss of fast-paced psychedelia, Cobber’s debut EP, ‘Source’ breathes life into the burgeoning Australian scene. With four propelling tracks released on his Impetus imprint, he connects dots between introspective electronica and raw techno, promising to transport the listener to a late-night ambiance bathed in strobe light.
Inspired by spaces outside of the club and a lifestyle immersed in the natural beauty of the Australian landscape, Cobber’s sound navigates the borders of techno, trance, and hard groove. With a string of self-releases and VA contributions combining the palettes of turn-of-the-century techno with a contemporary approach to high-fidelity sound design, he has established himself as one to watch.
Together with live artist E-File, Cobber heads Impetus, which serves as a platform for lesser-known artists whose skill sets are more than worthy of recognition. The imprint juxtaposes the diverse influence of the vast Australian landscape with a focus on the sharper, contorted edges of contemporary techno. Now into its third release, the label undertakes a holistic approach to the delivery of music, linking the intention of producers with elevated visuals and physical mediums.
Minimal Collective’s premiere pick, Apophatic, exemplifies Cobber’s approach to combining gritty rhythms with expansive sound design, building on his status as a luminary in the Australian enclave. Flowing through peaks and troughs, that melds the past with the future, destined to soundtrack gatherings in sweaty warehouses and energetic club nights alike.
