Playful yet deep sounds gather from different corners of the Japanese leftfield scene on the 22nd outing of Aum Recordings. For the first time, label founders Toru Ikemoto, DJ HI-C, and TENO return to appear on the inaugural VA, joining four artists that make their debut on the label. AUM007 VA is an extension of the project’s broad representation of Japan's contemporary electronic music voice.
Operating out of Osaka, Aum Recordings has been a significant entity in shaping Japanese leftfield electronic culture. Balancing renowned artists with emerging talents from around the globe, AUM007 VA shifts that focus entirely to Japan. In doing so, it both shapes a distinct local voice and connects it to the global context. Coming from different backgrounds and working in various structures, all artists on AUM007 VA contribute an individual track that showcases a playful yet refined approach that feels characteristic to Japanese craftsmanship and close to the approach that is true to Aum Recordings.
Among the four debuting contributors is Tokyo-based duo project Herbalistek. Minimal Collective premieres their track Interplanetary Etiquette, bridging the dubstep infusion they are known for with hypnotic percussion that meets the label’s ethos in full force.
