Primal urgency meets precise control as Amsterdam’s Hitam unveils Scarlet Cloak, the second chapter on his label, Rhiza Semar. Fusing industrial grit with organic fluidity, the DJ, producer, and sound designer sculpts a release marked by a broad spectrum of influences – nature, art, field recordings, and the raw energy of the dancefloor itself. Nawaz sharpens this vision with a visceral remix.
Scarlet Cloak is an EP that builds like a slow burn, its rolling bassline and fragmented drums generating both propulsion and unease. Synthesisers oscillate between guttural resonance and spectral drift, while distortions ebb and flow in rhythmic succession. There's a palpable duality, where the organic intertwines with industrial palettes. The title track’s brooding, smoke-fuelled intensity is reimagined in Nawaz’s remix, which heightens the original’s collateral aesthetic. Closing the EP, In Your Head turns tribalistic, weaving warring percussive tension with grunting cries as it unfolds into a 10-minute techno-industrial power surge straight from a high-octane Ubisoft FPS.
Minimal Collective’s premiere pick is Future Kill, and at just over six minutes, the track evolves into a somnolent, post-Dionysian haze. As a resident of Erste Communie and the founder of his own imprint, Hitam has gained steady recognition for his atmospheric compositions – an approach fully realised here. As it progresses, subtle shifts in urgency lead to a powerful post-drone atmosphere with kinetic, deeply sculpted rhythms. Hitam embraces imperfection with meaning here, resolving in a blend of groove-driven textures with a forceful sonic signature.
