Pannotia meticulously dissects a tight cocoon of steadily evolving synthesis across the five tracks of Cell, his latest outing with Eora’s Pure Space label. The EP channels microbiological processes throughout, interweaving linear progression with natural processes of growth and decomposition.
Meditating on the immense resilience of organic life, Pannotia distils his fascination with microbial structures throughout his work. Cell is the result of time spent between the urban melee of London and the suburbs of New South Wales, conjuring an interest in the stark differences, but consistent building blocks, that unite such far-flung spaces. On Tesselate, the release’s doof-ready crescendo, these themes are brought home by a whispering voice vocalising the life cycles of microscopic life.
Andy Garvey’s Pure Space label has been a growing force in Eora’s maturing musical ecosystem, providing a welcoming home for the local producer’s psychedelic sensibilities and well-honed sound design.
Minimal Collective spotlights Life Cycle as its premiere pick. A sonic petri dish which inoculates exponential lines of electronic synthesis. First, an oscillating hum that swirls as it spreads, before a flurry of halftime percussion that decomposes a growing tension into a meditative groove.
