Rooted in the fertile ground of India's electronic music scene, the collaboration between Qilla Records and I7HVN continues. On the Hill combines sharp grooves and tribal drums with fantasy led motifs across five original tracks, followed by reinterpretations from Caldera, Kabeer Arora and Radical.
Indore based I7HVN is among the more distinguished voices to emerge from India's electronic scene. While his productions and live sets are often recognised through a psychedelic thread, his output extends beyond the dancefloor, frequently exploring experimental IDM and ambient corners. Keeping sound as core practice,he integrates visual media and inspiration drawn from fantasy literature, building a conceptual world of its own.
A fitting home for that approach, Qilla Records, has become one of the defining platforms for contemporary electronic music from Asia, with more than one hundred releases to its name. Founded in 2011 by Delhi-born Kohra, the label has grown into a carefully curated platform, bringing together established and emerging artists from the hypnotic side of techno and the IDM spectrum.
Minimal Collective highlights Caldera's reinterpretation of the release's title track, On the Hill. Caldera, the moniker of German born, UK based producer Malte Schumann, builds on the tension of I7HVN’s original. Emphasising groove over abstraction, he reworks the track into a typically rhythmic cut.
