Sleep D return to one of Australia's finest labels, Butter Sessions, travelling through a vast array of soundscapes and moods from downtempo, to their classic tech-house sound and speedier club cuts. The duo, known for their skilled live performances and ‘anything goes’ DJ sets continue to demonstrate why they are at the forefront of the Naarm scene with their ten-track album Electronic Arts.
Electronic Arts is a masterful display of hard-edged, club music intertwined with tasteful ambient and downtempo. The album is the second full-length release by Corey Kikos and Marius Syawish under the Sleep D alias and is representative of the years of dedication behind the project.
Tempos intensify and decelerate throughout the album, with tracks like Planet Waves pushing the pace through punchy percussion and delayed chords that harp back to early trance. In contrast, Hector (dreaming) is an engaging ambient piece that uses wind-like sweeps and leftfield samples whilst Outdoor System is a gritty, acid-leaning drum workout.
Our premiere track, Hockey, is a true peak-time club hit equipped with electrifying low ends and synthesiser leads from outer space. The track quickly builds in energy with the introduction of its dotted bassline before switching into a four-to-the-floor pattern and further layering its otherworldly sound motifs.
