TENO works up four lithe cuts of sinuous techno in his latest offering for Japanese label Aum Recordings. The DONT CRY OVER SPILLED MILK EP programs three up-tempo techno workouts, with a Wata Igarashi remix thrown in for good measure, tailored for toning mind and body alike.
TENO has built a growing reputation for machine-driven techno that pairs the CAPS LOCK urgency that his alias suggests with psychoactive atmospheres. His signature sound layers looping synthesisers over a locked 4x4 groove that leads the listener headstrong into disorientating reverie.
DON’T CRY OVER SPILLED MILK is TENO’s first vinyl EP after a slew of contributions to Aum Recordings, an Osaka-based label which he co-founded alongside Toru Ikemoto and DJ HI-C. Aum developed a singular voice in the Japanese techno scene, with its repertoire of tastefully minimal, hardware techno featuring contributions from renowned luminaries like DJ Nobu and Wata Igarashi, while also spotlighting emerging artists who are shaping the future of the genre.
Minimal Collective’s pick of the EP, Amaryllis, is an extended aerobic routine that sets off instantly with a driving determination. The track's unerring rhythm calls the body into motion and propels it forward. As the frenzy begins to grow, spiralling synthesisers evoke breathless exaltation, growing and falling while the insistent groove continues until the very last.
