There is always a solution

Vel carves a mental path on her debut LP ‘There is always a solution’, flying through glitchy tekno and psy-infused sounds that are quickly becoming her own. Across ten tracks, the Paris-based artist leans into the city's musical history, presenting a hard-edged approach to club music.

French label Mama told ya (MTY), founded by DJ and producer Anetha, positions itself as a driving force in the evolution of high-energy, avant-garde club culture. Following a collaborative track with LDS on MTY’s ‘Mille attaques, les vents contrèrent’ compilation last year, Vel’s LP is a fitting addition to the label, exploring the idea that ‘no matter the challenge, you will flow away’. Vel’s sound pulses with life, steered by percussion and a distinct feminine energy, though rooted in ancient rhythms and celestial tones. She pushes a modern take on techno and its adjacent sounds, arriving at a point where power meets elegance and warped sound design takes on undertones of the vibe that defined free parties throughout France at the turn of the century.

Minimal Collective premieres ‘Ambient Core’, a superspeed tekno cut where the only distraction from intense drumwork is the screaming synthesis pulling the mind out of the free party mud. It’s a track that Vel says was made in a bid to ‘capture the feeling of ambiance and lethargy at a very high BPM and show that dreaming can happen no matter the pace’. The final product is a surreal blend of chaos and calm, where even the most frenetic beats leave space for reflection.
