The transcendent atmosphere of the Kāthā VA released on Thailand-based Siamese Twin Records continues the label’s amphibian metamorphosis. Four electrifying remixes showcase cutting-edge techniques in reimagining primal rooted sounds, including Konduku's interpretation of 'Dāw’ by Khun Fluff, the alter ego projet of label co-founder Sunju Hargun.
Kāthā Remixes is an international 12” continuation of the original Kāthā cassette which showcases a remarkable, progressive approach to Asian spirituality. In Khmer and Thai cultures, ‘Kāthā’ refers to the practice of chanting sacred mantras and performing magical incantations to provide protection, bestow charm, or exert influence over life. It originates from ‘gāthā’ which are verses recited during mindfulness practices or meditation. These spiritual and religious reference points are incorporated into cosmic soundscapes and psychedelic rhythms on both Kāthā releases.
As Siamese Twin Records fosters sound symbiosis and dialogue between producers worldwide, the visionary blueprint of the Kāthā VA continues to take shape with finely curated remixes. Whilst Kusuma’s two remixes of Nic Ford’s ‘Cyberd’ balance between obscurity and enlightenment, Higher Intelligence Agency is transforming Temple Rat’s composition with his trademark synthetic modulations.
Minimal Collective presents the remix by Konduku, a trailblazer in sound design reshaping Khun Fluff’s ‘Dāw’. Ominous drum patterns and goose-bump-inducing low-ends catalyse spellbinding chants, resulting in hauntingly beautiful textures. Together, these elements create a spine-tingling atmosphere reverberating throughout the cut. Konduku’s Dub remix takes us on a journey through a misty rainforest in which the idyll is clouded by eeriness.
