With no time to waste, French label useless seconds returns for its second round of high-impact cuts. This time, they call on Souzo, the Le Midi-based producer and Rinse France resident, to step up with The Other Side, a five-track expedition into the outer edges of low-end futurism.
To the crew behind useless seconds, Souzo is more than just a contributing artist. He’s a close friend and, in some ways, part of the reason the label came to life in the first place. His sound carves out a space where density meets depth, moving between sub-bass pressure, techno’s rhythmic variations, and the abstract contours of leftfield electronica—all wrapped in shades of psychedelia.
Picking up where A Strange Wedding left off, his addition to useless seconds’ second release feels like an organic progression. As a label and collective, they channel their passion for curation and gatherings, sometimes fueled by the old sound system of Paris’ Concrete club, into a forward-thinking, community-driven approach. “We don’t plan on having a specific aesthetic, even though we love deep techno and the hi-fi sound universe,” the label explains. “All we can say is that we want to release music we love by people we love.” That passion is evident on The Other Side.
Between the driving drum workout of Don’s Eternal Drift and the slithering cadence of Octotiger lies Minimal Collective’s premiere pick, Haze Modulator. A treat for audiophiles, this mid-way track is a magnetic force driven by perpetual motion and tectonic flow.
