Australian sound aficionados Sleep D return to their Butter Sessions imprint in style on the Big Sky, Liquid Sun EP. Across four tracks, the staples of Naarm/Melbourne sound explore varying tempos and emotions tied together by a deepened connection to the natural world.
Butter Sessions has quietly become one of the most influential labels to emerge from Australia since its founding by Sleep D in the early 2010s. From its early days pushing the sounds of mainstays of the future like Guy Contact and Jennifer Loveless, to more recent output such as Nerve’s bass cassette, Tiger Mask, it has catalogued the evolution of underground electronic music in Naarm/Melbourne.
Sleep D is a name synonymous with the ethereal and tech-centric sounds of the city. As the duo nears 15 years of activity, the duo is preparing for a new warehouse party venture alongside Sydney/Eora trance force Andy Garvey, set to take place during Vivid Sydney—the city’s annual winter festival celebrating light, colours, and sound.
Minimal Collective premieres the crux of the EP, Acheron Cauldron, an amplification of energy that builds toward a powerful, almost volcanic release. At its peak, listeners are met with a moment of bliss, where bifurcating basslines and trance-tinged arpeggios move in harmony.
