A new entity is emerging from Canadian soil as Montreal-based Xia launches her new label Miel. Pollila, meaning “moth” in Spanish, symbolizes a living organism within a world of equals, each undergoing its own transformation. Mirroring this idea, the album brings together 14 artists whose distinct textures and approaches form an evolving body of work.
Montreal’s Xia takes a next step in the cultivation of the city’s leftfield territories. Separating herself from Montreal's T.I.T.S collective, she created space for herself to shape Miel. Ultimately meant as a multisensory space where sound, image and intuition respond to one another, this VA as first release is just the beginning of her curation. Pollila contains a 14-track sequence that moves across different corners of the leftfield universe. In between breaks, electronica and ambient lies a harmony that answers Xia's question: ‘Is it ever too eclectic?’
This week’s premiere pick is Subaquatic Echolator by VERMISST. A sonic deep-dive where a thumping kick and shifting currents echo through the chambers.
